What happens to your body when you hope? In mine, it's like some unprecedented organ blooms, makes its tissues felt, sputteringly begins to do its thing. Each photograph in Blue States traces this sensation, featuring dormant materials (rolls of insulation, a partially-built platform, two overlapping iron rings, siding, coiled tubes) gathering themselves up and evolving out from a negative space.
